Get Top Rankings the Easy Way

From the beginning of time, or at least the beginning of search engines, internet users have used every trick imaginable to attempt to get to the number one spot. It started with internet marketing companies attempting to get to the top by using discretely hidden keywords inside tags or invisible text. However, the search engines soon figured out what these people were doing, it required people to become more creative and knowledgeable. Many questionable practices are still used, such as using computer programs that create several different pages to put into search engines, something that is commonly referred to as "cloaking."

On the other hand, these unsavory internet marketing companies who use these immoral web marketing services claim they have to because the search engines make the ranking criteria ridiculously hard to live up to, and that making a search engine-friendly website leads to a very non-visitor friendly website.

Why Those Internet Marketing Companies Got it Wrong

Unfortunately, those who use those unsavory web marketing services and practices might not understand one key thing. The search engines didn’t make up the rules out of thin air; they got them from studying what most people who were using the search engines were doing to get where they wanted. Essentially, the higher ranked websites are giving their audience what they want, and the search engines took notice.

So What Do Search Engine Users Want?

The biggest and broadest answer to this question is that anyone who uses a search engine is looking to answer a question or fulfill a need. The want what they see on a results entry to match what they are look for, and in turn, they want what they click on to match what they are looking for. They want websites that other people have used, meaning the more popular websites. Does this sound like unrealistic criteria to you? Maybe to someone who is putting out a website that they know isn’t of good quality or that people won’t want to click on anyway, but not to most business owners. If the person in charge or your SEO had focused on this in the beginning, you would probably be at the top of Google, Bing, Yahoo, MSN, and other search engines today. Like anything else, the good guys usually win in the end.

Go With Good Content

Ultimately, if you do nothing else, you need to be sure your website has good content that is informative and appealing to visitors. You might want to get high search engine rankings, but why do it at the cost of your visitors? All visible changes to your website should keep the customer in mind, as well as the search engines. You need to make sure that content is labeled on each page, so you can inform the reader what it’s all about. Get linked by quality websites and do the same in return.
